The Red Bandanna Football Game at BC

The September 13th game was designated the Red Bandanna game in honor of Welles Crowther. The overall theme, as explained on the BC Eagles website, was to recognize selfless individuals and groups in the BC community.  [ Look for “September 13” in the “THEME DAY DETAILS” section of the page. ]

A WCVB TV video made earlier in the week shows that both the BC football players and the stadium itself would be conspicuously dressed in the red-bandanna theme.    published a pre-game article on Welles and BC’s prospects in the game.

The experts gave BC little chance of winning, but the Eagles shocked the experts and USC by winning 37 – 31.  Alison and Jeff Crowther were invited to meet with Coach Steve Addazio and the victorious team after the game.  The coach presented the game ball to the Crowthers.  A video containing Coach Addazio’s remarks and the Crowthers’ response can be seen in a video on the BC Eagles website and also on youtube.

Sports Illustrated offers an interesting perspective on the game.   For a while at least, the entire game can be seen on ESPN.
